Pandas complete home and home sweep

CALGARY – The Alberta Panda's won their seventh game in a row on Saturday night at Flames Community Arenas, defeating Mount Royal for the second night in a row, by a score of 1-0.

Kennedy Ganser provided the game's lone goal, while Cougar goalie Emma Pincott looked impressive throughout, stopping 28 shots in the loss.

Much alike last nights meeting in Edmonton, these two clubs couldn't generate much offense throughout the majority of this contest.

The Cougars looked less than inspired in the first period, registering just two shots on goal and hurting themselves further with penalty trouble. They spent a good chunk of the period on the penalty kill resulting from lazy penalties trying to keep up with the the red hot Pandas.

Alberta goalie Dayna Owen didn't have much to complain about in the throughout, as her team dominated puck possession. But her Cougar counterpart, Emma Pincott, was put to the test. The Cougar goalie has definitely picked up her play as of late, and she continued to impress in the opening period on Saturday, stopping all 10 shots on goal to keep it scoreless going into the second period.

Alberta came out even faster in the second as they tried to get a puck past Pincott, who wasn't getting much help from her Cougar teammates.

Despite not taking bad penalties like they did in the first, the Cougars still couldn't get the puck out of their own zone and set up a scoring chance on the other end. Mount Royal's last line of defense bailed them out once again to keep tonight's contest scoreless going into the final period.

Pincott's magic had finally ran out in the third. After a Cougar penalty, Alberta's Kennedy Ganser made no mistake on the Panda power play opportunity, zipping the puck past Pincott's blocker side.

Ganser's power play goal was all the Panda's needed to close out the rest of the game.

Mount Royal falls to 8-11-1-4 on the year, while Alberta continues their winning streak, improving their record to 11-9-2-0.

Alberta will travel down to Lethbridge for two games against the Pronghorns next weekend. Start times for are scheduled for 7:00pm and 3:00pm MST on Friday and Saturday at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

Mount Royal's next game will be against the Calgary Dinos at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Cougars will battle the last-place Dinos on Saddledome ice for the fifth annual Crowchild Classic. Puck drop is set for 5:00pm MST on Feb. 2.
