    Calgary, AB The 2017 Mount Royal Men's Soccer Preseason Tournament has finished. The tournament featured MacEwan, Thompson Rivers, Lethbridge, UNBC, and the hosts Mount Royal. The Cougars finished the tournament with a 1-1-1 record.

    Sarkaria was named as the conference’s top player Thursday, ahead of this weekend’s Canada West Men’s Soccer Final Four at Foote Field in Edmonton. The first-year Golden Bear set the conference single-season scoring record with 19 tallies this season, leading the Bears to a 13-1-2 regular season mark – the best in the conference.

    LANGLEY – Playing at home in a Canada West home playoff game for the first time since 2007, the Spartans men’s soccer team put on quite a show in front of a boisterous crowd as Trinity Western earned a 3-0 quarter-final win over Mount Royal Saturday at Chase Office Field.

    Mount Royal earned their first national ranking in program history after a road trip that saw them defeat UFV and tie Trinity Western. The Trinity Western game was one of the best efforts of the season for Mount Royal and vaulted them into the conference’s elite.
  • Cougars tie Pronghorns, finish third in Prairie division

    LETHBRDGE – In the final conference game of the season, the Lethbridge Pronghorns and Mount Royal Cougars battled to a scoreless draw. Both teams had already booked their ticket to the playoffs, but positioning was still up for grabs. If the ‘Horns won they would have finished in third and a win by the Cougars would have given them a second place finish and a home playoff date.

    The formula is simple for Mount Royal, win and you’re in. They need just two points to secure a playoff spot and still have an outside shot at finishing second. If they were to finish second they would start the playoffs at home. If they finish third or fourth, they will head over the mountains to play either Trinity Western or UBC.

  • Zielinski shines for the Cougars on Senior Night

    CALGARY – Kamil Zielinski stole the show in his final home game for the Cougars. The fifth-year goalkeeper stopped a late-game penalty kick to preserve the Cougars’ 1-0 victory. Cody Cook scored the lone goal of the game for Mount Royal.
  • Harrison scores in the 55th minute to preserve the draw for MRU

    CALGARY - Despite surging out to a lead in the first half, the University of Calgary men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against the Mount Royal Cougars on Sunday evening at McMahon Stadium. The Dinos jumped out with a quick attack in the opening minutes. The team was able to register the first shot of the match in the 4th minute, as Dominic Russo sent the ball at the goalkeeper, but was ultimately unable to find the net. Moments later, in the 7th minute, defender Dominick Zator took a hard shot on target that was also denied.

    CALGARY – Lahai Mansaray scored twice for the Griffins to help them earn their first victory of the season. Daniel Harrison scored the only goal for Mount Royal in the 2-1 loss. The match was delayed several minutes by a dispute over jerseys. 20 minutes after the original start time; Mount Royal and MacEwan were finally set to get the game underway.

    CALGARY – Niko Saler scored twice to lead the Alberta Golden Bears to a 2-0 victory over the Mount Royal Cougars. The Prairie Division’s top two teams squared off Saturday afternoon at MRU Stadium Field. The game lived up to all the hype as the two sides played a fast, intense game right off the bat.

    CALGARY - Mount Royal shot from anywhere and everywhere at Cougars Stadium Field on Sunday, yet the Timberwolves only gave up one. Justin Anderson-Louch scored for Mount Royal and Jonah Smith nodded the equalizer minutes later to finish the game with a draw.

    The Cougars had a shaky weekend at home after being ranked in the CIS Top Ten for the first time in program history. They lost a tough game to the defending champs from UBC and followed it up with a lackluster performance against the UNBC Timberwolves. A win over Alberta this weekend would go a long way to get the Cougars back on track in the race for home field in the playoffs.
