HEADLINES:

The Cougars and Bisons are trending in opposite directions in the second half of the season. The Bisons are 8-4 in the second half and have earned splits with the top two teams, Saskatchewan and Alberta. The Cougars are 4-8 in 2017 and have lost their last six games in a row.

THE SERIES:

The Cougars are 11-8-1 in regular season play against the Bisons. Manitoba is 2-1 against Mount Royal in Canada West playoff action, defeating the Cougars in their opening round series in 2013-14. The Cougars won all four regular season matchups against the Bisons this season.

MOUNT ROYAL COUGARS (15-11-2)

Mount Royal is in the midst of a full on tailspin heading into the playoffs. Mount Royal has won only four times in 2017 against Lethbridge and Regina, the only two teams that did not qualify for postseason play. Connor Rankin was able to lock up the scoring title this season, becoming the first Cougar to ever lead Canada West in points. The North Vancouver, BC native had 17 goals and 18 assists for 35 points, this season.

MANITOBA BISONS (14-12-2)

The Bisons are fresh off a 2-1 win over the Alberta Golden Bears last weekend. The Bisons are coming together at the exact right time as they make their push in round one against the Cougars. Veteran Jordan DePape was sidelined for eight games this season due to injury but was able to earn 23 points in just 20 games. Byron Spriggs sits sixth in the conference with a 2.82 goals against average. Spriggs was 12-8-2 this season with a 0.913 save percentage.
