GAME DATE: Feb. 11 at UBC
LOCATION: Flames Community Arenas – 3:00pm MST

HEADLINES:

The Cougars have fallen from second all the way to fourth place in a matter of two weekends. The Cougars sit a single point behind the Calgary Dinos for third place and will have to secure two wins this weekend over UBC if they are to have any chance of overtaking the Dinos. Calgary has the last-place Regina Cougars this weekend for a chance to lock down third spot.

THE SERIES:

The Cougars are 8-6-4 against UBC lifetime. Mount Royal won their first two games of the season against UBC with the Nov. 25 contest going to a shootout.

MOUNT ROYAL COUGARS (9-12-1-4)

Mount Royal is trending in the wrong direction heading into the playoffs. After winning four in a row early in 2017, the Cougars have dropped four straight heading into this weekend. A weekend sweep at the hands of their cross-town rivals from Calgary knocked them down to fourth place. Mount Royal is still in solid position to take a run at the Canada West title, they will just have to win a first-round series to do so. Connor Rankin still sits atop regular season scoring. The sophomore winger has 33 points (16G, 17A) in just 24 games.

UBC THUNDERBIRDS (19-3-3-1)

UBC is on the outside looking in. They sit two points out of a playoff spot heading into the final weekend of the season. They trail Lethbridge by two points but cede the tiebreaker to the Pronghorns, so they must finish ahead of them in points. Veteran forward Anthony Bardaro is second in league scoring with 29 points (14G, 15) in 26 games. Matt Hewitt and Derek Dun have split the goaltending duties this season. Each goaltender has appeared in 14 games with Dun holding a slightly better record of 5-4-2.
