Under Armour & Players Bench Athletes of the Week, Nov. 19-26, 2018

CALGARY – Two goalies have been selected as the Under Armour & Players Bench Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 19-25.

The battle of Southern Alberta took place on the ice last weekend, as Mount Royal took on the Lethbridge Pronghorns. Third-year goalie Zoe De Beauville allowed one goal Friday and, recorded a shutout Saturday to secure the weekend sweep.

On Friday night at the Flames Community Arenas, MRU was able to take a 2-0 lead with the outstanding play from De Beauville. She let in her only goal late in the third, after stopping 22 of 23 shots.

On Saturday, De Beauville took center stage. Lethbridge outshot MRU 29-26, but was still defeated 1-0. This shutout secured the weekend sweep for MRU.

The MRU goalie stood on her head all weekend, saving 51 shots over two nights. She has continued to be a cornerstone of the Cougars women's hockey team.

De Beauville is from Calgary and is a third year, enrolled in Mount Royal University's Criminal Justice program.

Her male counterpart also had a stellar weekend between the pipes and MRU secured both victories, thanks to the performance of first year Riley Morris. He allowed just three goals and had a save percentage of .945 on the weekend.

On Friday night in Lethbridge, MRU was able to take the early lead 3-1 after the first period. They then relied on Morris for the rest of the game, as he stopped 26 shots in the victory.

On Saturday, Morris was even better, letting in only one goal on 25 shots in the 5-1 victory. With the stable play from their goalie, MRU was able to come away with a weekend sweep.

Morris has been a force all year, leading the conference in save percentage, and is second in goals against average.

Hailing from Calgary, Morris is a first year enrolled in Mount Royal University's Open Studies program.

Both teams will be in action again this weekend against the Regina Cougars. The women will host while the men will be on the road.
