Each Month the Cougars award the top male and female performers throughout all eight of their varsity sports. Muscle MLK, the Athlete of the MonthSponsor, has generously donated a prize pack containing apparel, protein and accessories to the Male and Female Winner each month. The awards are handed out on the first of every month to the top performers of that specific month.

    Lefebvre & Driscoll Named Athletes of the Month – February 2016 James Lefebvre closed out the final month of his career in style dropping 97 points in his final six games. In the month of February, Lefebvre averaged 16.2 points per game on 52.3% shooting. The Cougars won five of their final six games and James led the team in scoring in two of those contests. The final push gave Mount Royal a shot at the playoffs, tying for the third place regular season record. The Cougars missed the playoffs because of the tiebreaker but it was the closest they have ever to come to qualifying for the post season.

    Schmidt & Donaghy Named Athletes of the Month – January 2016 The torch has officially been passed this season on the men’s volleyball team. Fifth years Jordan Parkin and Andrew McWilliam are still at the top of their game but it is second year rookie Tyler Schmidt who is now the face of the Cougars program now and for years to come.

    Layton & Weninger Named Athletes of the Month - November 2015 Brett Layton has been the biggest success story for the Cougars in the early part of this season. Layton has burst onto the Canada West scene and has already announced himself as one of the best players in the conference. Through 8 games this season, he leads the Cougars in points per game (18.3), field goal percentage (59.8%), rebounds per game (9.5) and blocks per game (2.5).

    Cooper & Prudhomme Named Athletes of the Month - October 2015 Cooper was thrust into the starting role after third year starter Cam Lanigan went down with an injury. The first year Cougar took his opportunity and ran with it. Cooper has put together some impressive numbers against some of most elite teams in the nation. In 6 starts, he has gone 4-1-1 with a 2.34 goals against average and a .916% save percentage.

    Rendle & Schafer Named Athletes of the Month - September 2015 The future of Mount Royal Cougars men’s soccer looks awfully bright and that is due to a large core of talented rookies on the squad. Atop the freshman class at the midway point of the season is Drake Rendle.
